Have you ever taken on a new job? Maybe it's only a temporary role to fill, yet it still gives you the opportunity to rise to the challenge. I can definitely say that each time I start day one of a new school placement, it's a challenge, new people, places to go, routines to follow. It can be a lot at first. However, as you press forward, after a few days, you can find your way around, laugh with co-workers and students and feel confident inthe role you play. When it comes to living a life with faith at the centre, it can be challenging to press forward and answer where God is calling. It can be scary. However, God is always by your side, giving you courage to rise to the challenge, even though it may be hard at the start. Are you ready to rise to the challenge?
Today's Gospel states:'In these days he went out to the mountain to pray; and all night he continued in prayer to God. And when it was day, he called his disciples, and chose from them twelve, whom he named apostles; Simon, whom he named Peter, and Andrew his brother, and James and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon who was called the Zealot, and Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor. And he came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. And all the crowd sought to touch him, for power came forth from him and healed them all' (Luke 6:12-19).
Today's reading talks about how Jesus chooses his twelve disciples. They were already followers, bit can you imagine the responsibility they felt as Jesus called each of them to be his disciples? I'm sure many thought to themselves 'is he talking to me'. When we're given opportunities to rise up, sometimes we may fail. However, it's important to keep pushing forward and continue to ask God to help you rise to the challenge He has for you right now. Take some time to ask God to help You have courage and face the challenges ahead.
Today we pray:
Thank You for calling me yo be Your disciple Lord. Help me to be strong and have courage, rising up to each challenge I may face.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
