Have you ever had to show leadership in a way that encourages others, yet leaves them alone to try their hardest to work on their own? You showcase how you want work to be done, the proper mannerisms and working procedures, but then you let them kind of step into their own role, own way of doing things. None of us are the same, otherwise we'd be a bunch of robots without free will. Where would the fun be in that? God calls us to represent His Word and will to the world in our own unique way. Obviously, you still want to all be on the same page, highlighting key Doctrine beliefs, attend mass, build in relationship through prayer. However, we are all given unique gifts and talents in order to share our belief, our love, and God is calling us to step up, step out, and take action, inspiring those around us to do the same using their given gifts and talents. Are you up to the challenge?
Today's Gospel states:'But now I am going to him who sent me; yet none of you asks me, `Where are you going?' But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts. Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convince the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more; concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged'(John 16:5-11).
Today's reading talks about how Jesus must return to the Father, first talking about the Ascension. He is telling his disciples that he will not be with them for much longer, but is giving them the tools necessary to go forward and be disciples for the world in their own way. How is God calling you to be a light in discipleship? Maybe you have a talent for music, for listening to people, for sharing advice, for writing? God gives us all unique gifts through the power of the Holy Spirit that drive us, pushing like a fire to go, to love. Take some time to pray and ask God to help you see the gifts He's given you to share His love with the world.
Today we pray:
Thank You for giving me the fire of Your Holy Spirit within me. Help me to use the gifts You've given me to go into the world and be a disciple in a way that suits me best.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
