Have you ever gotten lost when you were travelling to a new place, somewhere you didn't recognize? Maybe you're like me and tend to have a really bad sense of direction unless you've previously found your way around the area. I mean, if you don't have any hard copy maps on you, have no sense of direction and rely solely on a GPS that hasn't been updated recently, it can be quite the round about journey in a new place. You also get that feeling of panic, having left you safe little abode of home and not understanding where you are. Even in those moments where we doubt we'll find our way back, we get determined, and have hope that we can find our way. God helps us to get back on the right path when we're lost, no matter the situation. Like a Shepherd that keeps to His flock, He'll never let you go astray, never leave or abandon you. Have you been lost in the faith lately, not knowing how to get back on track?
Today's Gospel states:'Now he was casting out a demon that was dumb; when the demon had gone out, the dumb man spoke, and the people marveled. But some of them said, "He casts out demons by Be-el'zebul, the prince of demons"; while others, to test him, sought from him a sign from heaven. But he, knowing their thoughts, said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and a divided household falls. And if Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that I cast out demons by Be-el'zebul. And if I cast out demons by Be-el'zebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. But if it is by the finger of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are in peace; but when one stronger than he assails him and overcomes him, he takes away his armor in which he trusted, and divides his spoil. He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters' (Luke 11:14-23).
Today's reading talks about how if we do not follow in faith, then we are against it and if we do not gather in communion to celebrate the Goodness of God's love for us, we scatter and are lost. It can be very easy to get lost, especially when our lives are constantly being challenged by temptations and sin. It's difficult to know exactly when we get off track and start to lose our way. All we know is that when we finally realize we're lost, it can be terrifying and we will do everything possible to find our way back. In order to stay on the right track, it's important to invest our time growing closer to God, building relationship through prayer, going to mass, devoting our time to being good people and caring for those around us. Are you on the right track? Take some time to pray and ask God to help you find your way back when you become lost.
Today we pray:
Thank You for every day that you give me to do your will and speak Your truth to the world. Help me when I fall off track, to always find my way back to You.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
