Have you ever had a really bad cold, one that left you curled up in a ball on the couch, wishing someone would put you out of your misery? This past fall, I had a really bad case of Bronchitis, taking everything out of me, voice included. Think about how defeates and needy you are at these times, being thankful for supportive and caring people around you. We are called to help the sick and suffering in our faith, those who struggle with illness, with caring for themself properly. Jesus came for the poor, for the tax collector, for the sinner first and foremost. As we are to replicate the love of Christ, we too need to help those who need it most, not just those who share our faith, but those who haven't yet come to know God's love in their life. If you were in their shoes, wouldn't you want someone to come help you, similar to when you're sick and helpless from my he flu?
Today's Gospel states:'And when they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennes'aret, and moored to the shore. And when they got out of the boat, immediately the people recognized him, and ran about the whole neighborhood and began to bring sick people on their pallets to any place where they heard he was. And wherever he came, in villages, cities, or country, they laid the sick in the market places, and besought him that they might touch even the fringe of his garment; and as many as touched it were made well' (Mark 6:53-56).
Today's reading talks about healing of the sick, and how it's an important part of our mission, as it was for Jesus. Jesus doesn't send these people away, but welcomes them in, even to eat at the same table together. Our duty is to be disciples who not only speak God's Word, but share God's love, especially through our actions. Are there some ways you can give some of your time to help those in need? Take some time to pray and ask God to help you in your mission to help those who need His love.
Today we pray:
Thank You for showing me what it means to be a loving person through the example of Jesus, Your Son. Help me to be a light of aid for those in need, and to share Your love with the world.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
