Have Hope

May 10, 2018

Have you ever had a bad experience where there wasn't a light at the end of the tunnel? There was no hope or bright side to move you on with life. It probably felt like that at the time, especially if things kept going wrong, right? You lose focus of the ultimate goal, and focus too much attention on the despair of the moment. However, you are where you are now, you've moved past these moments, proving that change is possible. This is the element of hope, the key requirement for any religious belief. Hope is more than just believing the best will happen, it's living each day with the willingness, the desire to hope. Do you live your days being hopeful?

Today's Gospel states:'Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy. When a woman is in travail she has sorrow, because her hour has come; but when she is delivered of the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a child is born into the world. So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask anything of the Father, he will give it to you in my name' (John 16:20-23).

In today's Gospel, we hear about how your sorrow will turn into joy. Even if it takes longer than you'd hoped, God is directing you to Him, to complete goodness and joy, to love. Through Jesus, we are given hope, hope for something beyond torture, death and the grave. Some situations may leave us feeling overwhelmed, but God never pushes us beyond we can handle. There's always hope. Take some time to ask God to help you be hopeful.

Today's prayer comes from 'dial hope' a prayer for being hope-filled people:

God of eternal hope, we pray that you may fill our hearts with the power of your presence, which is the very presence of hope. We pray for our family and friends, and even our enemies, that you will fill their lives with the hope that does not wither away but stands the test of time. We ask this prayer in the name of Jesus, your hope in incarnate. Amen.
