God has a plan for everything in our lives, everything we do and say. The Jewish people had believed there would be some form of a Messiah figure coming to save them from the Romans, to reward the good and fight against the wicked. However, there is no way they could have anticipated a suffering Messiah. However, God has a plan beyond what we could know, and it is revealed especially through His Son Jesus. One of the greatest things deliberated within Christian faith is why Jesus had to suffer in order to restore our sins, and was not the Kingly Messiah they had anticipated. The same Jesus that performs miracles is crucified for us, the greatest sacrifice that anyone could endure. Only a God that is full of unconditional love could give so much.
Today's Gospel states:'Now when Jesus came, he found that Laz'arus had already been in the tomb four days. Bethany was near Jerusalem, about two miles off, and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to console them concerning their brother. When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, while Mary sat in the house. Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. And even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you." Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again." Martha said to him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day." Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?" She said to him, "Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, he who is coming into the world"'(John 11:17-27).
In today's Gospel, Jesus raises the dead. Jesus tells them that if they believe in him, they will never die, but live eternally in him. Now in this scripture, he literally brings the dead back to life through a miracle. However, through taking up the cross, Jesus makes it possible for us to be renewed, to repent of our sins and shows us the fullness of God's love, through sacrifice. If we believe, and live a good life as disciples of Christ, then we will be reunited with him in God's Kingdom, both here on earth, and when we die. Take some time to thank God for the gift of His son, and to be worthy of this love.
Today's prayer comes from 'ibelieve' a prayer to know God's plan:
God, you know me better than I know myself. You know my fears and my desires. You know how much I want this. You know how much I will be devastated if this doesn't happen. I know you love me. I know you have a plan for me. Please, Lord, don't let my desires blind me to your will. If this is not within your plan for me, throw up a Brick Wall. Give me an obstacle I cannot get past. Help me follow your will, Father. Give me peace about whatever is to come. If this falls through, I will know it is your hand.
Thank you for loving me,
