Do you ever have weeks where you feel like you can't quite slow down and catch your breath? Sometimes the world around us can get to be chaotic and we don't have time to slow down and rest. How then, is one to go about finding rest, finding peace?
Relying on God and praying for peace and grace is definitely a good start. In the morning when you wake up, try asking God to give you grace and that you be guided for the Holy Spirit throughout your day. Along with relying on God, sometimes it's good to take some time to slow down and rest. When you're going at a rushing speed day in and day out, it can be difficult to see the blessings you're given in life, to really experience God's grace. Taking time with family helps too. They can always help you to see what is truly valuable in life.
Taking time for rest, a few minutes of quiet even, is good for us. It gives us time to take a deep breath, slow down and reflect on our day. Maybe try and make a goal for yourself to take five minutes a day just to breathe, say a prayer, connect with God and acquire the strength to move on through the day.
In today's Psalm we read: "Blessed is every one who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways! You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be happy, and it shall be well with you. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. Lo, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD. The LORD bless you from Zion! May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life!" (Psalm 128:1-5). Even for those in the time long before Jesus, they were reassured through having the blessings of God. If we rely on God in every area of our lives, and take the time to truly develop a relationship, we will be blessed in every area of our lives. This doesn't mean that things will be perfect, but that God's grace will be with us in all we do. In this way, we will always be able to find true peace in God.
Today's prayer comes from 'Catholic Online', a prayer to know peace:
Father of Heaven and earth,
hear my prayer and show me the way to peace.
Guide each effort of my life
so that my faults and my sins
may not keep me from the peace You promised.
May the new life of grace You give me
through the Eucharist and prayer
make my love for You grow
and keep me in the joy of Your Kingdom. Amen.
