You know how when you go to make spaghetti and as it's boiling, the noodles start sticking together? It's hard to pull them apart unless you use a little force. Sometimes in our modern world, we become just like a clump of spaghetti noodles. We're too raw and hard-minded and set in our ways of the world that we don't realize when we truly need to break apart from those around us. Sometimes we simply need a little push to get us back on the right path towards Christ, and untangle ourselves from this webbed world we live in.
Like in the song above, we need to 'shout to the Lord', and find ways to glorify and praise in our everyday lives. If we are less focused on ourselves, the sin of the world, all the chaos of social media and constantly being connected with people, we will be able to connect more freely with God. We will feel so much more empowered to do good and to receive God's grace, if we learn to let go and live by faith.
In today's Gospel reading from Matthew 16, Jesus tells his disciples :"If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? Or what shall a man give in return for his life? For the Son of man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay every man for what he has done" (Matthew 16:24-27). We must take up our cross with Christ, whatever that cross may be for each one of us individually.
In order to be one with Christ, we need to become disconnected from the chaos and sin of society, and become interconnected and dedicated to a) learning and growing more in our faith and b) teaching others about the good grace of Christ's love. Don't be a clump of spaghetti, break free and find your true companion: Jesus
Today's prayer comes from Christians TT (Prayer for release from bondage, expectations, stress and fear):
Holy Spirit lead me, guide me and walk beside me through this journey. Break every chain and every stronghold in my life, set me free.Free from bondage, free from sin, free from temptations, stress, fear and other people’s expectations of me. Let me prove them wrong, may them see a good work in me and glorify You.Lord, knowing You are always near, I break free of every negative thought, word or action directed at me.I declare I am victorious through Christ Jesus, who is my strength, my fortress and my strong tower. Lord, raise me up to overcome everything that tries to pull me away from You.Father, replace my fear with strong faith. Replace my worry with mighty hope. Replace my despair with unspeakable joy.Lead me to that inner peace that can only be found in You, my Lord and Savior. Today, those chains of negativity are broken and I am free.In Jesus’ Mighty name I pray, amen!
