Stive for More
Do you ever feel like you're stuck living an ordinary lifestyle? Maybe you're slowly moving through the motions, one day to the next, not really striving for more, but continue on. If you don't try to strive for more, make improvements, change, seek your goals, life can get boring and you tend to lose sight of what's important. Speaking now as an experienced mother, it's a normal thing to be on the go, one feeding to the next, one diaper to the next, one nap and then repeat. Life could feel ordinary and a cycle of repeated motions, if you didn't take the time to cherish the new baby developments, the smiles, the little laughs, the wide-eyed photo opportunities. In the same way, if we don't take the time to cherish each joyful moment as they pass us by, life can seem dull. God wants us to strive for more, to go beyond just doing a daily routine, but finding joy in it. Do you strive towards finding the joy?
Today's Gospel states: 'Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the gospel." And passing along by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, "Follow me and I will make you become fishers of men." And immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zeb'edee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. And immediately he called them; and they left their father Zeb'edee in the boat with the hired servants, and followed him' (Mark 1:14-20).
Today's reading talks about how we are called to be fishers of men, doing more than just the typical day-by-day tasks given in an ordinary life. If we just stick to the daily routine, like zombies, we end up letting life pass us by without really feeling like we've accomplished anything. It's important to get up each day and give your all to the day ahead, the routine you have, the chores, the day-to-day tasks, and find joy and meaning in each moment. God calls us to strive for more each and every day, even if it's just in our work, chores, sleepless nights. It's important to find the joy in every moment. Take some time today to pray and ask God to help you strive for getting the most out of your day.
Today we pray:
Thank You for giving me all that I have in my life. Help me to embrace each day and find joy and meaning in every moment.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
