Love as God Loves
God is love. Today we will do a lectio divina together, looking at the Gospel of the day. Read through the reading the first time, taking in what is being said. Read through again a second time and pick out one or two words or phrases that stand out to you and hold them in your heart and mind. Read through the passage a third time and consider how God is speaking to you directly in this passage. Following the third time reading, take some time to pray and reflect.
Today's Gospel states: 'For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. He who believes in him is not condemned; he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does what is true comes to the light, that it may be clearly seen that his deeds have been wrought in God' (John 3:16-21).
God loves us so much that He sent His only Son for us, not to condemn us for our sins, but to give us another chance, to save us. We too are called to give this same love, to give chances and be forgiving, loving as our Father has loved us. How is God calling you to love?
Today we pray:
Thank You for loving me as You do. Thank You for Your Son and the joy that comes through Your forgiveness. Help me to be loving and forgiving as You have been for me. I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
