Find Your Peace
How do you find peace? When we think of 'peace', we're not only talking about in terms of peace from war, a peaceful society. We also mean, probably more importantly, peace of mind, heart, and soul. It can be difficult to find peace, especially when we are constantly surrounded by noise, by people, by technology. In order to truly be able to recognize where God is working in us, leading us, it is important to be at peace in mind, body, and soul. I know for myself, my mind is always here, there and everywhere. There is always a list, always a task to be done before I can rest, be at peace. I'm sure we are all very much in the same mindset, especially in our current pandemic situation. We are called to be people of peace, of love, but before we can work outward, we need to first work inward and get a grasp on ourselves. How do you find peace for yourself, so that you can bring peace in the world?
Today's Gospel states: 'Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. You heard me say to you, `I go away, and I will come to you.' If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I go to the Father; for the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place, you may believe. I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over me; but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go hence' (John 14:27-31).
Today's reading talks about how we need to be able to give and receive peace, as Jesus exemplifies for us. God calls us to be people of peace, giving peace to others, and working towards finding peace in ourselves. The word 'peace' itself means free from disturbance. How often do you find that you mind is pulled in various directions? Can you take a break from social media, from being connected, from feeling stress and worry. Some of us truly cannot answer yes to any or all of these. It's important that we break this habit, and learn to take a break, to sit in silence, to pray and really be able to listen to God. Take some time today to ray and ask God to help you find peace.
Today we pray:
Thank You for being at the centre of my life. Help me to find peace in my mind, heart and soul, in order ti bring peace in the world.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
