Faith is Rewarding
Have you ever had the experience of being rewarded for something good you've done or accomplished? It has become a custom in our world to do good deeds, such as cleaning, getting a good grade, doing a hefty chore, in order to get something in return. I remember trying to get all my chores done to get a small allowance as a kid. As you get older, you realize what it means to do those tasks without much of a reward, besides having the good fulfilling feeling of getting it done. God shows us that we need to be devoted in faith, and the rewards will be much more than what we can imagine, leading to miracles. By being people who invest ourselves in faith, we will grow in love, truth and happiness, feeling confident that God is by our side. It's much more powerful than any earthly reward could be. Do you feel rewarded for your faith?
Today's Gospel states: 'And from there he arose and went away to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And he entered a house, and would not have any one know it; yet he could not be hid. But immediately a woman, whose little daughter was possessed by an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell down at his feet. Now the woman was a Greek, a Syrophoeni'cian by birth. And she begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. And he said to her, "Let the children first be fed, for it is not right to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." But she answered him, "Yes, Lord; yet even the dogs under the table eat the children's crumbs." And he said to her, "For this saying you may go your way; the demon has left your daughter." And she went home, and found the child lying in bed, and the demon gone' (Mark 7:24-30).
Today's reading talks about how God rewards our good faith, even if we may not recognize it at the time. God has shown us through Jesus, that He can work miracles through us, and the only thing it takes is faith. That's not meant to sound like an easy task. Being people of faith takes constant effort, dedication and trust, especially through difficult times. It can be even more challenging than our most firm relationships. God shows us though that if we remain faithful, we take the time and effort to be people who believe, that we will be rewarded with God's grace, in this life and the next. Take some time today to pray and ask God to help you feel rewarded for your faith.
Today we pray:
Thank You for showing me what it means to be a person of faith. Help guide me to be faithful, especially when it may feel challenging.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
