Bear Witness

How do you bear witness to God's will in your life? We are all called to be witnesses to the good that God has given us, in different ways. Some are called to speak and lead. Others are called to sing and praise through the wonderful sounds that music can bring. Others are called to listen and show God's love through bringing an open ear and showing they care. Many are called through their vocation to speak God's will, be that through marriage, parenting, priesthood or religious life, the celibate life. Even through everything that we've been through with COVI-19, we are called to bear witness through doing everything that we can to bring protection for our friends and families by isolating, continuing to show love and appreciation for everyone through keeping in virtual contact and taking extra time for prayer and quiet devotion to God. What are some ways that you are already bearing witness on a daily basis?

Today's Gospel states: 'Do not marvel that I said to you, `You must be born anew.' The wind blows where it wills, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know whence it comes or whither it goes; so it is with every one who is born of the Spirit." Nicode'mus said to him, "How can this be?" Jesus answered him, "Are you a teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand this? Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen; but you do not receive our testimony. If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven but he who descended from heaven, the Son of man. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life"' (John 3:7-15).

Jesus tells the people here that we need to bear witness to all that God has done for us, speaking truth both to what we can see, and what is beyond our sight. This includes how God works within our everyday lives, from our primary and secondary vocations, to personal prayer and also from what we know that God has done for us and for our world in the past, present and our hopes for the future. God is so good and loving and is working through us and in us in ways that we don't even know are possible. Take some time today to consider how God is using you to bear witness.

Today we pray:

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the love that You have shown me. Guide me in all that I do and say and help me each moment to bear witness. I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
