Let Us Unite!

Have you ever had the experience of playing on a sports team? It's a very rewarding experience. If you end up being placed on a team with people who can't seem to share the ball, and share the spotlight though, it can definitely be a challenge. It takes away from the fun of the game, especially if the game changes to being about how to get this player the ball, leaving everyone else on the sidelines and not getting a chance to experience the fun of the game, the rewards of helping your team to win. However, when you can unite as a team, sharing the spotlight and working together towards the end goal, it feels so much more rewarding and you feel accomplished at the end of the game, whether you win or lose. God wants us to work together as a team of people to bring His love to the world. We can't try to be like the ball hog, taking everything on alone. We need to work with those God had brought into our lives in order to grow and help bring others to know his love. Are you sharing the spotlight?

Today's Gospel states: '"I came to cast fire upon the earth; and would that it were already kindled! I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how I am constrained until it is accomplished! Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division; for henceforth in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three; they will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against her mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law"' (Luke 12:49-53).

Today's reading talks about how we cannot be a people divided. If we are people who cannot unite for a just cause, then we cannot hope to stand, let alone live on functioning in this world. If we try to tackle everything alone, then we're not really putting our trust in God to help us, and we will definitely end up falling flat. Take some time today to reflect on where you are standing right now. Do you try to take on the world by yourself, or do you share the burden? Take some time to pray and ask God to help you to trust in the help He is giving you to live the best life possible.

Today we pray:

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for helping me to see the good in everyone around me. Help me to work with everyone you put in my path, not letting anything sway me from sharing Your love.

I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
