Seek the Signs
Do you believe in signs? Maybe on a day that starts out down pouring rain just turns into chaos. Maybe you've had one of those days where everything just seemed to go right, and then you were greeted by a beautiful sunset on your long drive home. In a way, we can use these signs to help us see that God is present, working with us, through us, alongside us. I know that God was working in me through my school placement, as on the last day everything went really well, getting thank you cards from students and the teacher, and starting and ending off the day with a beautiful sky scenery for the sunrise and sunset. Think about the times that you have read the signs in your day-to-day journey through life. Did you notice God acting through things that were happening, even if it's just through the weather throughout your day?
Today's Gospel states:'When the crowds were increasing, he began to say, "This generation is an evil generation; it seeks a sign, but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of Jonah. For as Jonah became a sign to the men of Nin'eveh, so will the Son of man be to this generation. The queen of the South will arise at the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them; for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here. The men of Nin'eveh will arise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here' (Luke 11:29-32).
Today's reading talks about how we try to seek a sign that God is with us. We're constantly looking to make sure He is there, when really we should be trusting that He is always with us in everything that we do. Instead of looking for the signs, we should focus each and every day on how God is using every opportunity to show us His love. Do you take the time to recognize God working in your everyday life? Take some time this Thanksgiving weekend to pray and ask God to help you recognize Him pushing you to be a disciple of love every area in your life.
Today we pray:
Thank You for this wonderful life that I've been blessed with. Help me to see You working each and every day in my life.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
