Be Free to Be You
Do you remember what it was like to be a child? You felt free to make any decisions on a whim, even if they happened to be the wrong ones. It came naturally, just striving to get what you wanted, even if that meant having a screaming fit in order to get it. We've all been in this situation at some point in our lives, even if that means jumping at an opportunity to get that new top or new electronic because it's at a good price, without considering the outcome. Think about times when you may make these kinds of decisions in your faith life. Do we show the same consideration for following through in matters of faith, making decisions on a whim and jumping at every opportunity to share God's love? Or do we lose out on opportunities because we take too long to jump in?
Today's Gospel states:'At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them, and said, "Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. "Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me; "See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven' (Matthew 18:1-5, 10).
Today's reading talks about how we are called to be humble like children, in everything that we do. When was the last time you tried to be child-like in your decisions? Do you jump right in to any opportunity that will help you further your spiritual life, be that growing in prayer, attending daily mass, helping those in need? There is always something we can let go of in order to feel more free, to face the challenges God puts in front of us with ease and with love. Take some time today to pray and ask God to help you to freely jump at chances to enhance your faith life.
Today we pray:
Thank You for helping me to grow in my faith. Let me be more dedicated towards seeking opportunities You give that will help me to enhance my spiritual life. I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
