We Are Brothers and Sisters
Are you close with your siblings? If you are an only child, maybe you're close with a cousin or friend who almost seems like a sibling? They are the person you feel you can tell anything to. You laugh and cry with them, share all of your good and not so bright moments. That's typically the role between siblings right? Now, imagine that you could do that with every person you meet? Every sing person, you can share your faith, you can lean on them and know they'll help keep you on the right path. It's hard to imagine, especially in our world of chaos, constantly trying to be the best, bettering ourselves when compared with our neighbours. However, God is calling each of us to be brothers and sisters in faith, to rise up towards bettering ourselves through growing in relationship. It's part of our mission as disciples. Are you ready to embrace those around you as family?
Today's Gospel states:'Then his mother and his brothers came to him, but they could not reach him for the crowd. And he was told, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, desiring to see you." But he said to them, "My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it"' (Luke 8:19-21).
Today's reading talks about how all who believe are connected as brothers and sisters in faith. We're not necessarily talking about blood-relation. That would be going a bit overboard. However, if we try to spend more time each day being kind to those around us, lending an ear and eyes (yes that means pulling them away from the screen while you talk), the world could grow to be a better place, one of community and less isolated. How do you try to give yourself to those around you? Do you give your full attention, enough of your time away from work and distractions? Take some time to pray and ask God to help you be a good sibling for anyone you meet.
Today we pray:
Thank You for helping me to be Your disciple in the world. Help me to learn to be a better sibling to those who need someone to show them love in their life.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
