Prepare for the Day
Have you created a bucket list of the things you want to accomplish in your life? Maybe you've already gotten a head start on checking things off? I definitely still have a ways to go in completing mine, especially since I keep finding things to add to it. A trip to explore everywhere over Europe is definitely on there, along with taking part in a game of paintball, possibly going on a walking pilgrammage. There are so many things we find we want to do in our lives, but sometimes the moments for them pass us by, or we never have the right time, reaching the end of a summer or a vacation without really having accomplished much. When it comes to faith, we can probably say something similar, that we hope to help at the church, attend weekly and even daily mass, help those in need. The list goes on. Sometimes it's hard to get up and running and we lose the time, and never really invest ourselves in our faith community, and even our own spiritual growth. It's important to start small and grow, as Jesus teaches us, the first step is to say yes and get up, following him. Are you ready to accomplish some of the things on your list for spiritual growth?
Today's Gospel states:'"Then the kingdom of heaven shall be compared to ten maidens who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them; but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. As the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. But at midnight there was a cry, `Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.' Then all those maidens rose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, `Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' But the wise replied, `Perhaps there will not be enough for us and for you; go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.' And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast; and the door was shut. Afterward the other maidens came also, saying, `Lord, lord, open to us.' But he replied, `Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.' Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour' (Matthew 25:1-13).
Today's reading talks about how we don't know the day or hour that God will call us back home, just that we need to be ready. We can have a bucket list that we're trying to complete, but what good will all of that do for us in the end if we haven't worked on our spiritual bucket list? If you're having trouble finding the time, start small and give just five minutes of peace and prayer to God each day. Take some time today to pray and ask God to help you work growing more in your faith.
Today we pray:
Thank You for showing me that I need You in my life Lord. Help me to grow in my faith daily and yo keep taking steps to being Your disciple.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
