Love the Enemy
What's the difference between a superhero and a villain? Well, for starters, in comparing their actions, the hero does good deeds and the villain is constantly trying to cause harm towards others. The superhero does everything in their power to try and protect everyone that they can, including the villian if possible. They yearn to bring about the best end results for all people. In many ways, we too are called to be superheroes, to bring God's love to everyone the crosses our path. We need to love all people, even those that may try to hurt us, even the one who may appear to be out to get us. Are you representing the hero or the villain?
Today's Gospel states:'"You have heard that it was said, `You shall love your neighbour and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you salute only your brethren, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect' (Matthew 5:43-48).
Today's reading talks about how we should love and pray for all people, especially our enemies. It may not be an easy task, especially if you constantly have someone who's plotting against you, trying to hurt you and ridicule you. However, it's part of our duty as disciples to go forward and to share God's love, in any way that we can. We need to try to be superheroes for the world, even though the task may seem daunting. Are you someone who shows love every chance you get? Take some time to pray and ask God to help you be a person of love for the world.
Today we pray:
Thank You for showing me that it's important to love all people, even my enemy. Help me when I struggle to show Your love. Let me be a hero for those around me in any way I can.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
