What is Transcendence?
What does it mean to be transcendent? Think about your science class when you learned about transparency, when things are 'see through'. It's very similar to this idea, but extends further. To be transcendent means to be beyond what we can physically see and touch, yet we know it to exist. it’s beyond or greater than our mere human ability to comprehend. That doesn’t mean we don’t get glimpses of what is transcendent. With God, we know that He is the all-loving, all-giving, all-forgiving ultimate, our creator. We know this through what we’ve heard from the prophets, from Jesus, from Scripture, from prayer. If we knew everything there was to know, then God wouldn’t be the ultimate right? We shouldn’t be trying to know everything that will happen, that’s up to God. We just need to trust that God is with us in everything that we do.
Today's Reading states:'But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, to show that the transcendent power belongs to God and not to us. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. For while we live we are always being given up to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So death is at work in us, but life in you. Since we have the same spirit of faith as he had who wrote, "I believed, and so I spoke," we too believe, and so we speak, knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence. For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God' (2 Corinthians 4:7-15).
Today's reading talks about how God's plan is above and beyond our own. God’s plan is above and way beyond our own. Did you know that God knew you before you were even conceived, how many hairs would be on your head, what you would do wit your life? God has a very special plan for you in this world, and you are a unique piece of His ultimate design. That’s a lot to grapple with, as it should be. How often do we try to take things into our own hands, and it just ends up going the wrong way? Do you ever struggle to find your purpose and meaning in your life? We’ve all had those up and down days where we don’t quite see where God is planning for us to go. However, God is always with us, guiding us, helping us with our every step. We just need to trust that His plan is perfect for us, in His timing. Take some time to pray and asm God to help you let go and trust in His ultimate plan.
Today we pray:
Thank You for making me a special part of Your creation. Help me to accept Your transcendent will for my life.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
