Try to Understand

Are you an eye-roller? Some people are and even when they really try to avoid the gesture, the eyes can slip and then you are caught, usually by the person you had been rolling your eyes at to begin with. Typically it happens when you don't agree with an action, so being a disrespectful action of opposition. I've definitely had my few cases of eye-rolling moments, as much as I try not to. Why though do we go to this action, instead of seeking further understanding and comprehension for why people do what they do? Nowadays, we lack the desire to talk and have one-to-one conversation and even get to know our neighbours, and resort to gossip, eye-rolling and avoiding discussion altogether by sticking our noses in our phones. God calls us to be in communion with the world, to grow in relationships and seek more chances to love and be loved. Is it possible to get back to our tru-born calling from God?

Today's Reading states:'Therefore I prayed, and understanding was given me; I called upon God, and the spirit of wisdom came to me. I preferred her to scepters and thrones, and I accounted wealth as nothing in comparison with her. Neither did I liken to her any priceless gem, because all gold is but a little sand in her sight, and silver will be accounted as clay before her. I loved her more than health and beauty, and I chose to have her rather than light, because her radiance never ceases. All good things came to me along with her, and in her hands uncounted wealth. I rejoiced in them all, because wisdom leads them; but I did not know that she was their mother. I learned without guile and I impart without grudging; I do not hide her wealth, for it is an unfailing treasure for men; those who get it obtain friendship with God, commended for the gifts that come from instruction' (Wisdom 7:7-14).

Today's reading talks about the many ways that we can find understanding in life. We first and foremost need to call upon God, seeking His will and guidance to find true understanding. True friendship is better than any mere treasure. Wisdom from God shows us how we should live a good life, giving us the means to get there. If we resort to the gossip and eye-rolling before even trying to get to know and understand our neighbour, then we miss out on those experiences of love that God is trying to show us. Take some time to reflect and ask God to help you to try to build upon relationships and understand the person beside you.

Today we pray:

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for guiding me towards greater knowledge and understanding for knowing You. Help me to use this understanding from You to build relationships with those around me.

I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
