Question Your Faith
Do you ever stop and get lost in millions of questions about the world, your life, the 'what ifs' that pass you by? We all have those mornings where you lay in bed for an extra hour just thinking about things that have been heavy on your heart and mind. Especially when you're a student juggling classes, jobs and a social life, it can get challenging, making you question what the outcome goal of it all really is. When it comes to faith, there are many critics in the world who challenge us in every way possible to think one way or the other, making our form belief more confusing to face. God tells us that it's okay for us to question our faith and even healthy to do so, for if we didn't question, we wouldn't seek further answers to those questions that burden us. You just need to be wary of the questions you ask, not crossing lines, but simply trying to use human reasoning to come to the determination that faith is the answer. Are you asking the right questions?
Today's Gospel states:'His disciples said, "Ah, now you are speaking plainly, not in any figure! Now we know that you know all things, and need none to question you; by this we believe that you came from God." Jesus answered them, "Do you now believe? The hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, every man to his home, and will leave me alone; yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me. I have said this to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world"'(John 16:29-33).
Today's reading talks about how we need to keep asking ourselves what we believe in, determining the grounds for our faith. Jesus asks his disciples if they believe, telling them that it's important to keep coming back and answering this question with a yes, not letting the world lead them astray. So many times in our lives we are challenged to question our faith by those who don't believe, by those of another faith, and they're right, it's important to question it. We need to keep coming back to the question of what is it we believe in, and revist this question as the world changes around us as well. Take some time to pray and ask God to help you continue to question your faith and strengthen your belif by finding answers.
Today we pray:
Thank You for helping me to believe in You Lord. Guide me each and every day to grow more in faith and help me to become stronger through facing the big questions I have and finding answers.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
