Put in the Work
Have you ever had to complete some form of a project, for work or school? Typically, the harder you work on it, and the more effort and time you put in, the greater your reward will be after submitting it right? However, if you don't put in the work, you'll not only probably get a bad grade or review, but you won't learn what it means to really put in what you get out of something. It's a valuable skill to learn for everything in our lives. When it comes to living as people of faith, we won't really get that much out of our faith if we don't take the necessary time to grow, daily. This means going to mass, at least weekly, reading and praying with Scripture, taking time for prayer and quiet reflection, while also making yourself open to missionary work, whatever that may mean in your life. You can't really grow if you don't put in the time and really try.
Today's Gospel states:'"I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch of mine that bears no fruit, he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already made clean by the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If a man does not abide in me, he is cast forth as a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be my disciples' (John 15:1-8).
Today's reading talks about the vine coming from the main tree, how it grows and shifts with God at the centre. God is the root of the tree, where we originate from om, and we are the branches. He's always trying to give us opportunities to grow, to flourish, even though sometimes it may be through challenges that seem very great for us to handle at the time. Are you putting in the time to grow in faith? Take some time to pray and ask God to help you recommit yourself to Him in faith.
Today we pray:
Thank You for creating me in Your very image and likeness. Help me to accept the challenges ahead and put You at the centre through everything in my life.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
