Don't Be Troubled
Have you ever had someone ask you 'what's on your mind'? Typically, they can see that something is bugging you or distracting you, based off of how you have lost focussed, an expression on your face, maybe the continuous chores that have you overly busy. You can tell if someone is troubled, because they're not focussing on the present moment, but on thw worries that lay ahead in the future for whatever is troubling them. It's hard to really embrace every moment in life when we're so focussed on what lies ahead. God tells us that He is always with us, right by our side and that we do not need to be afraid, no matter what the future may hold, it is good. Keep that in mind next time you get caught up in future worries and try to look more at the present moment.
Today's Gospel states:'"Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way where I am going." Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?" Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me' (John 14:1-6).
Today's reading talks about how we don't need to be troubled, to worry about things that have not yet come to pass. Thomas questions Jesus, saying they have no idea where he is going and how they'll know where to find him again. Jesus tells them that he is always with them, even if they can't see him. He's trying to tell us that we don't need to be afraid, we don't need to have troubled hearts because as long as we follow him, everything is good. Do you worry too much about the future? Take some time to pray and ask God to help calm your troubled heart.
Today we pray:
Thank You for helping me to realize that being troubled about the future is pointless, especially since I trust You are by my side. Help ease my worries and let me focus more on embracing the present.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
