Show Love through Actions
Have you ever been judged for the name you carry, the type of person you are, and not given the chance to show your true self through actions? So typically in our modern world, we pass judgements prior to even starting a conversation with a stranger, not the greatest way to make a first impression. It doesn't help that we don't really take time to talk with people anymore, so distracted by our phones and the most current social media post. We lose those chances to meet new people, to give a friendly smile, to make someone's day by holding the door. The first way that people are going to judge you, whether you are a person they'd want to get to know whether you are good, is through your actions. God wants us to show the world His love through how we act, how we show His love, leading from there to spoken Word. Do you take the time to share love in your everyday travels?
Today's Gospel states:'The Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, "I have shown you many good works from the Father; for which of these do you stone me?" The Jews answered him, "It is not for a good work that we stone you but for blasphemy; because you, being a man, make yourself God." Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your law, `I said, you are gods'? If he called them gods to whom the word of God came (and scripture cannot be broken), do you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world, `You are blaspheming,' because I said, `I am the Son of God'? If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me; but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father." Again they tried to arrest him, but he escaped from their hands. He went away again across the Jordan to the place where John at first baptized, and there he remained. And many came to him; and they said, "John did no sign, but everything that John said about this man was true." And many believed in him there' (John 10:31-42).
Today's reading talks about Jesus advising the people to trust in the good actions he does in the name of God. They need to trust, through the good and the love that he is doing, before they'll hear anything he has to say in regards to Scripture, which makes sense. We too are called to be people of action, people who show God's love through a kind gesture, a helping hand, a listening ear. If you want that friend who will never hear anything you have to say about the Catholic faith to listen, you first need to listen to them, and be a loving person that they can trust. Take some time to pray and ask God to help you to show His love through your actions.
Today we pray:
Thank You for showing me what ot means to be a person of love for others, through Jesus Your Son. Help me to show Your love to those who need it, every chance I get in my life.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
