Don't Deny Faith
Do you ever not see the things that are clearly right in front of you? It can be easy to deny ourselves opportunities to find great love, seek opportunity and joy in our lives. We deny ourselves because we see ourselves to be undeserving, like we always need to be better, become the best. We don't take time to smell the roses and really enjoy the life that's going on in front of us. We sell ourselves short, and run out of time for the important things in life, like that of finding love, family, friendship, faith. God calls us to be people who live the fullest lives we can, to "reach for the starts", as Buzz Lightyear would say. Do you find yourself not having the time to really enjoy the best parts of your life? Are you spending too much time on the things that don't really matter in the long run? Maybe it's time to take a break for a day and embrace the life God's given you.
Today's Gospel states:'When Jesus had thus spoken, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, "Truly, truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me." The disciples looked at one another, uncertain of whom he spoke. One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was lying close to the breast of Jesus; so Simon Peter beckoned to him and said, "Tell us who it is of whom he speaks." So lying thus, close to the breast of Jesus, he said to him, "Lord, who is it?" Jesus answered, "It is he to whom I shall give this morsel when I have dipped it." So when he had dipped the morsel, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. Then after the morsel, Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, "What you are going to do, do quickly." Now no one at the table knew why he said this to him. Some thought that, because Judas had the money box, Jesus was telling him, "Buy what we need for the feast"; or, that he should give something to the poor. So, after receiving the morsel, he immediately went out; and it was night. When he had gone out, Jesus said, "Now is the Son of man glorified, and in him God is glorified; if God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and glorify him at once. Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You will seek me; and as I said to the Jews so now I say to you, `Where I am going you cannot come.' Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, where are you going?" Jesus answered, "Where I am going you cannot follow me now; but you shall follow afterward." Peter said to him, "Lord, why cannot I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you." Jesus answered, "Will you lay down your life for me? Truly, truly, I say to you, the cock will not crow, till you have denied me three times' (John 13:21-33, 36-38).
Today's reading talks about how Peter will deny Jesus, not once, but three times. He doubts that this will be the case. I mean, he saw himself as Jesus' best, most determined follower, how could he betray Jesus? We all, in some way, become the person of Peter at some point in our lives. We doubt, we lose faith, and we find other things to fill our time on a regular basis. I know for a fact that for myself, I don't take enough time to have peace and quiet, especially being a soon to be teacher. What ways do you not take time to hear God's will in your life? Do you stray from your faith and fill that time with things that aren't really important? Take some time to pray and ask god to help you restore your faith.
Today we pray:
Thank You for helping me to know Your will for my life. Help me to take steps when I fall away and prioritize You in my life, and not the things that are not as important.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
