Dare to Be Truthful?
Have you ever played the game truth or dare? Most of us have, especially in the days of being youth. Typically, you would choose truth, unless you were feeling daring and ready to attempt the unthinkable. Do you actually tell the whole truth in these situations though? Not always, or at least, not always in the form of the whole truth. We tend to hide bits and parts of ourselves from the rest of the world, because we're scared about how the rest of society will see us. What's even more tragic, is that we create different versions of ourselves depending on who we're with, changing from being the faith-filled prayerful person at church and at home to someone different with friends, and then with colleagues. We don't share God's truth for the world when we hide that significant truth from certain people in our lives. God tells us that He is the way, the truth and the life, and that if we fully trust and follow His will, we will find everlasting life. I think that's definitely worth telling the truth for, don't you?
Today's Reading states:'Make me to know thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me, for thou art the God of my salvation; for thee I wait all the day long. Be mindful of thy mercy, O LORD, and of thy steadfast love, for they have been from of old. Remember not the sins of my youth, or my transgressions; according to thy steadfast love remember me, for thy goodness' sake, O LORD! Good and upright is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way' (Psalms 25:4-9).
Today's reading talks about how we need to let God teach us the right way to live, to seek His truth. We need to be humble, and see when we're turning away from God, admit the truth that we can be sinful and ask God to help us come back to Him through confession and prayer. The only way that you can hope to live a fulfilled life is through being the best, most complete version of yourself, letting God be at the centre guiding you the entire way. If someone were to ask you what your truth is, what would you say? Would you hide the faithful part of you inside and only list the earthly qualities, like your job and your hobbies, or would you share with them that you believe that God is our Father, Jesus is His Son who brings us the chance to new life, and that we are being guided by the Holy Spirit. Take some time to pray and ask God to help you speak the truth about His love.
Today we pray:
Thank You for helping me to grow in Your love and seek Your truth each day. Help me to speak truth in every area of my life, and share the Good news that is Your love for all the world.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
