What Does Your Joy Look Like?
How do you act when you are feeling joyful? Do you shout for joy, run around being cheerful, sing, possibly revert back to what some may call 'childish actions'. I know for myself, definitely taking a table cloth that is being set out for a birthday party and using it as a supposed Superman cape is definitely not beyond me when I'm happy. When you are joyful, you feel the most amount of freedom, like you can conquer the world, and you want to share that joy with everyone around you. Have you ever been in a really joyful mood, but then everyone around you seems to be glum, nowhere near happy? It can be hard to keep your joyful mood and share it with others at times like this. However, we are called and chosen to be people of joy, people who love and share this love through spreading the Good News and joy that God gives us each and every day. Do you share your joy?
Today's Psalm states:'I will sing of thy steadfast love, O LORD, for ever; with my mouth I will proclaim thy faithfulness to all generations. For thy steadfast love was established for ever, thy faithfulness is firm as the heavens. Thou hast said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant: `I will establish your descendants for ever, and build your throne for all generations.'" [Selah] He shall cry to me, `Thou art my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation.' My steadfast love I will keep for him for ever, and my covenant will stand firm for him' (Psalms 89:2-5, 27, 29).
Today's reading talks about how we should not just speak of God's love for the world, but to sing, to be joyous and abundantly shout the Good news. I have to admit, for myself, it can be much easier to spread this joy to others through music and singing, as that's the gift God has given to me. However, we are each called in our own way, in a way that is unique for us, to share the joy that God gives us. For you, it may be reaching out to a close friend and starting the discussion, it could be through giving a helping hand, maybe speaking at a conference. God wants us to use our joy, to use our very lives to share the Good News of His love to the world. How us God calling you to share your joy? Take some time to pray and ask God to help you share your joy with the world.
Today we pray:
Thank You for showing me what it means to love and be loved. Help me to use my gifts to share my faith, to share the joy You give me, with the world.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
