Knock and the Door Will Open
Have you ever gone around to houses selling some form of item, knocking on doors to ty and get people's attention, just for a few minutes? It can be a great challenge, especially if that happens to be around normal dinner time, or through the day when not many people are around home. You always get some who open the door and kindly hear out what you have to say, even if they're not interested. There are some who quickly open the door, say they're not interested and slam the door. Then there are those who keep quiet and hide out in the basement until you stop knocking and leave. None of these scenarios are the ideal. However, there are on the very rare occasion, some who hear you out, show that they genuinely care, and give their attention and support. In this situation, who do you think God is calling us to be? Obviously the one who opens the door and listens, just as God opens the door for us. We so often fall and shut the door, missing out on opportunities God is giving us to seek Him, and help others to seek Him as well. Will you keep the door open, or let these chances slide by and keep it shut to God's will?
Today's Gospel states:'"Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! So whatever you wish that men would do to you, do so to them; for this is the law and the prophets' (Matthew 7:7-12).
Today's reading talks about how when we seek, doors will be opened. God is always calling us home, welcoming us into His communion of people. God welcomes us in to be a part of a family, a family that we need to support as well and help others to become a part of. Do you actively seek opportunities to share God's will in the world? Are you kind and caring in every area of your life, helping others to feel God's love through you? Take some time to pray and ask God to help you share His love with the world, and to keep the door open for His will.
Today we pray:
Thank You for helping me to know Your will for my life. Help me to keep the door open and always be discerning the plans You have for my life.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
