Let God Take Control

Are you always needing to be in control, when it comes to every situation? I know for myself, I like to be organized, keeping everything in a certain place, having things prepared ahead of time, knowing how my days are going to pan out. In this way, I like to be in control. However, if you try to be in control of everything, you never really have the chance to live, to experience the freedom of life that God has to give. You need help taking on the challenges life can give. We all need to let God take control, and live in each moment that He gives us, not being worried about the future, but taking the time to breathe and be present. Are you ready to let God take control?

Today's Gospel states:'"And in praying do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Pray then like this: Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our debts, As we also have forgiven our debtors; And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father also will forgive you; but if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses' (Matthew 6:7-15).

Today's reading talks about how we need to pray, but not in a way that makes us the one in control of the conversation. We need to pray in s way that let's God take control, praying the Our Father. If we only ask and ask and ask, we are not upholding our part of the relationship, listening for God's response. When we say the Our Father prayer, we are recalling everything that God has done for us in our lives, and giving praise and thanks, taking us away from ourselves. We too often have difficulty relinquishing control to God, and letting Him be our loving Father. Take some time to pray and ask God to help you give Him full control in your life.

Today we pray:

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being a loving Father. Help me when I try to control everything to trust in You, and give You control. Help me to be present in the moment.

I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
