Let the Good Outweigh the Evil
Would you typically consider yourself a good person? Are you someone like Superman, letting your morals guide you to good and help others? Or are you more like Lex Luthor, mischievous and always plotting to bring someone down and be the victor? Are you the good guy or the bad guy of the story? It's not always easy to say one way or the other, because sometimes it's difficult to know when we've crossed the line. Sometimes you can be so overcome with hurt and fury that you act out in spite, wounding relationships, falling into sin. Living a life of faith can be easier said than done, as we all have challenging moments where we're definitely identified more as Lex Luthor than Superman. However, God knows this, and gives us a moral conscience to discern when we've gone wrong, those moments when we turn away from Him. He's always calling us back on the path to live a good moral life. Think about your life choices right now. Would more people identify you as Lex Luthor, Superman, or somewhere in the middle?
Today's Reading states:'"See, I have set before you this day life and good, death and evil. If you obey the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you this day, by loving the LORD your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his ordinances, then you shall live and multiply, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land which you are entering to take possession of it. But if your heart turns away, and you will not hear, but are drawn away to worship other gods and serve them, I declare to you this day, that you shall perish; you shall not live long in the land which you are going over the Jordan to enter and possess. I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse; therefore choose life, that you and your descendants may live, loving the LORD your God, obeying his voice, and cleaving to him; for that means life to you and length of days, that you may dwell in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them"' (Deuteronomy 30:15-20).
Today's reading talks about how we must be on the side of good, never letting evil be the master over us. God gives us many tools to help us live a good life and stay on the right track. These tools take the form of the Ten Commandments, the Beatitudes, the teachings, parables and very person of Jesus, as well as our Church doctrines and leaders. God speaks to each of us, encouraging us to be good, to fulfill our purpose of being His people on earth through the way we live our lives. Are you doing everything you can to live a good moral life? Take some time to pray and ask God to help you follow your conscience and make good decisions.
Today we pray:
Thank You for giving me so many tools to help me live a good life. Help me to follow the example of Jesus, Your Son, and make good decisions.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen
