Have you ever done something half-heartedly? Maybe you put in some effort on an assignment, a work task, a presentation, but not to the extent that you could. So many of your prior projects looked fantastic, and you used your creative skills and took so much time working on it. This one however, you did in 15 minutes because you'd pushed it off, you busied yourself with things that didn't matter as much. You did it half-heartedly. Sometimes we just feel worn, lacking any energy to focus, and don't really put in our best efforts. Being a student, I can definitely attest to this fact. Life can be overwhelming. When it comes to being a faithful disciple however, it's important that we don't slack, and give everything to being children of God. More than just attending mass and praying at meals, it's important to make faith the centre of everything you do, talking, what you watch, helping others, taking personal time for prayer. It's time to be a full-hearted, fully giving and trusting disciple, putting God at the centre, as the main priority.
Today's Reading states: 'Praise the LORD. I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation.Great are the works of the LORD, studied by all who have pleasure in them. He has caused his wonderful works to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and merciful. He provides food for those who fear him; he is ever mindful of his covenant. 9He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant for ever. Holy and terrible is his name! The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who practice it. His praise endures for ever!' (Psalms 111:1-2, 4-5, 9-10).
Today's reading talks about giving full-hearted praise to God, for the great things He has done in your life, in the past, the great things to come. Full-heartedly, we need to trust, and praise, not half a heart. You're not really giving it your all if you give your time and prayers to God half-heartedly right? I find for myself, the biggest challenge is finding time for quiet, listening for God's will in prayer and reflection. We each have areas to work on to bring God to the centre, even if it means making a bigger attempt to attend weekend mass, and giving up making excuses, but finding the time. Take some time to pray and ask God to help you live and give full heartedly in your faith.
Today we pray:
Help me to do my best to make You the centre of everything going on in my life. Let me give full-heartedly to you, and pay more attention to where You're leading me.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
