How Do You Love?
How do you express acts of love? When looking at the Five Love Languages, we see that there are many different ways for expressing love. There's love through touch, through action, through gift giving, through word of mouth. Each of us show that we love someone in different ways, and for many of us, it may not always be easy to show love from certain methods. For me, I think word of mouth is the most challenging, as I like to show how I love by actions, cooking a meal, hand holding, playing a game of cards, stepping out of myself to actively do things to show my love. God shows us what it means to love, through giving us His Son, being the greatest act of love, sacrificial. To love is to make sacrifices for those we love before ourselves. How do you make sacrifices of love in your life?
Today's Reading states: 'Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God, and he who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God; for God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the expiation for our sins' (1 John 4:7-10).
Today's reading talks about God being the fullness of love, creating us through an act of love, making us to love and be loved, and also helping us to find redemption and forgiveness for our sins through the greatest gift of love, Jesus on the cross. To know God, is to know what it truly means to love. As we're getting back into the busy New Year, what are some ways we can each be more sacrificial in our daily lives? How can we show the world what it means to live in God's love? Are there times where we can make greater sacrifices to show our love for those closest to us? Take some time to pray and ask God to help you show sacrificial love in your daily life.
Today we pray:
Thank You for showing me what it means to truly love, to be sacrificial. Help me to show love in any way I can, and make sacrifices of love for those who need me most.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
