Thee of Great Faith
Are there times in your life where you exhibit great faith? Maybe you took a risk that others thought foolish. Maybe you showed kindness where everyone else could only give envy. Think about the prophets of old and some of the challenges they faced, where others scolded. The story of Jonah, for example, shows a man who runs from God for having to face the city of Ninevah, where the people were known for their sins and harm towards outsiders. He ends up going there, to deliver God's will, that the people change their ways, or God would punish them. Jonahs companians thought him crazy for making any attempt at going to the city, yet he continued on, showing great faith in a time where many would run. We may not face the same challenge as Jonah, but there are many standards set in our world that we adhere to, which make us turn a blind eye from God's will, such as giving a helping hand to a stranger, or giving great donations of time and money to a local charity. Where is God giving you the chance to show great faith?
Today's Gospel states':In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a city of Judah, and she entered the house of Zechari'ah and greeted Elizabeth. And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and she exclaimed with a loud cry, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the voice of your greeting came to my ears, the babe in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfilment of what was spoken to her from the Lord"' (Luke 1:39-45).
Today's reading talks about Mary visiting her cousin Elizabeth, and how her baby leaps within her womb at the sight of Mary. Elizabeth shows great faith, just from her first greetings greetings to Mary. God helps her to understand the joy, the grace within Mary before she even tells her of the baby in her womb. In our world, it can be hard to be forward with others about our faith, and approach people with love upon first meeting. However, God tells us that this is exactly what needs to happen in order for us to not only spread the Good News, but to grow in our own faith. Where is God showing you that you need to grow? Take some time and pray and ask God to help you take steps to share your faith with the world.
Today we pray:
Thank You for letting me live a life of faith, with You at the center. Help me to share this faith with the world and bring others to know You.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
