Bear Your Cross
What cross are your bearing in your life right now? What is the struggle that has you most stressed, anxious, fearful? School is definitely a burden for me, constantly being tested to see what I can handle. There are triumphs and failures, but what's important is ensuring we continue through, and reach our goals, no matter the stress that comes our way. I'm sure each if the disciples faced stress, dealing with new people, new struggles, many who want to disprove their faith. Yet, they spread the Good News of Jesus to the world, so that all could choose to believe. Do you remain true to your faith through the stress?
Today's Gospel states:'Now great multitudes accompanied him; and he turned and said to them, "If any one comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple. For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, `This man began to build, and was not able to finish.' Or what king, going to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and take counsel whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an embassy and asks terms of peace. So therefore, whoever of you does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple' (Luke 14:25-33).
Today we hear about how even those who love us most may not understand us, may fall in faith. We learn that this is bound to happen, but cannot be stressed, or worried, or fearful to follow God's will, even if it separates us from the people and things we know best. Take some time to consider where God may be calling you to go out and evangelize, even if it means leaving what you know most.
Today we pray:
Thank You for calling me to be Your disciple. Help me when I am overwhelmed with things that don't matter more than faith. Lead me to do Your will, even if those around me oppose it.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
