Trust in God
Do you trust those that are of your inner circle? Probably some more than others right? Some you may feel you can share your darkest secrets, your deepest desires. Others may be only the big excitements, the drowsy days. We find it difficult to fully put our trust in most people. This makes sense, looking at the modern world and all of the thievery, the hurt, terrorism, bad news. We tend to trust that evil will come our way, and that we need to guard our hearts, even from God. I know for myself, it can be difficult to fully open up to those I haven't known from childhood, but begin to trust more and more as we spend more time together, learn more about one another, and lean on each other for support. In the same way, we need to make God not only a part of our inner circle of trust, but to put God at the centre, trusting His will completely above our own. As we take more time for prayer, spend more time in worship, attend mass and build relationships with others who share our faith, it becomes easier to trust God to lead our lives, to let go and be open to His will and love. Is God in your circle?
Today's Gospel states: 'But before all this they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors for my name's sake. This will be a time for you to bear testimony. Settle it therefore in your minds, not to meditate beforehand how to answer; for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict. You will be delivered up even by parents and brothers and kinsmen and friends, and some of you they will put to death; you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But not a hair of your head will perish. By your endurance you will gain your lives' (Luke 21:12-19).
Today's reading talks about how even those who are closest to us will persecute us. I'm sure even those you trust have broken that bond time and time again. We let each other down, maybe share secrets we shouldn't have, lose touch and rely on one another less. God will never let us down. No matter the numbers who turn away from you, the bonds of friendship that are let go, the persecutions you may face, you can always place your trust in God to help you find the way. Take some time to pray and ask God to help you build your circle of trust with Him at the centre.
Today we pray:
Thank You for helping me to trust, to grow in love and relationship. I pray that even when some let me down and try to persecute me, that You will always be at the centre. Help me to trust in Your will.
I pray this in Your most holy name, Amen.
