Make a Place for God
Do you have a place in your home that is set out for prayer? This could take the form of a prayer table, a spot your family knows is a place for quiet reflection, maybe in your bedroom facing praying on your knees with the door shut. For me, quiet is sitting out in the living room with our prayer candle lit, a nice space for our family to pray together. It also takes place in my car, through the long drives to work, no music and just quiet time, praying to God, taking time to listen. God offers each and every one of us this prayer place at Church, as we come and receive the Eucharist, and give praise through worship. However, God is calling each of us to not only find time for prayer in the mass setting, but in our daily lives, in our homes, with our families on a current basis. Do you have a quiet place for prayer in your home?
Today's Gospel states: 'And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold, saying to them, "It is written, `My house shall be a house of prayer'; but you have made it a den of robbers." And he was teaching daily in the temple. The chief priests and the scribes and the principal men of the people sought to destroy him; but they did not find anything they could do, for all the people hung upon his words' (Luke 19:45-48).
Today's reading talks about making God's house a house of prayer. It's so easy to get distracted when we have a million things on the go, and even more on our minds, and we tend to forget prayer. Worse off, we'll start to say a silent prayer, and get sidetracked with the to-do list, and then get back to the prayer. It's never easy, and life's never going to stop challenging us, be we need to learn to take a breath, slow down, and take the time to pray, continually throughout our days, especially in God's house. Do you get distracted in mass, and forget the value of prayer? Take some time to ask God to help you take time for continuous prayer in your life.
Today we pray:
Thank You for baptizing me into faith, and for showing me each and every day what it means to be Your child, an important part of creation. Help me to take time for prayer, not only at mass, but at home, and in every area of my life. Guide me closer to You Lord.
I pray this in Your most holy name, Amen.
