Do you try to be a friend to everyone? I'm one of those people who doesn't like being the enemy of someone. That's hard, especially when you confront people who have completely different interests and opinions right? We've all come across one person who may be 'irritating' and we try to be kind, and accepting, but it becomes a challenge. However, God doesn't have this bias when looking at His crestion. God calls each of us into His Kingdom, no matter our uniqueness, our quirks, our sins.
Today's Gospel states:'He entered Jericho and was passing through. And there was a man named Zacchae'us; he was a chief tax collector, and rich. And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not, on account of the crowd, because he was small of stature. So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was to pass that way. And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchae'us, make haste and come down; for I must stay at your house today." So he made haste and came down, and received him joyfully. And when they saw it they all murmured, "He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner." And Zacchae'us stood and said to the Lord, "Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have defrauded any one of anything, I restore it fourfold." And Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of man came to seek and to save the lost"' (Luke 19:1-10).
Today's reading talks about how Jesus asks us to welcome him in. This man was a sinner, one seen with 'quirks' and as set apart from the people. Even Jesus' disciples note this fact. However, Jesus is trying to teach us that everyone sins, everyone has struggles, and everyone is a child of God. We should welcome all people into our Church, our lives, and truly be examples of God's love for the world. Take some time to ask God to help you be accepting and inclusive of everyone.
Today we pray:
Thank You for making me unique and special. I pray that the world can move past biases and move towards an inclusive and accepting society. Help me to love all people, especially those who push me away.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
