They'll Know we are Christians
How do you show you are a disciple in your daily job? That job could be an actual full-time job, or being a student, being a parent. How is it that people can know we are people of faith just by how we act? The song "They'll know we are Christians by our love" comes to mind, talking about how we are one with the Spirit, with God, with each other, with the world. When we are a team player, taking the time to be make friends, pay attention and spend quality time with our families, and show love in everything we say, every decision we make, we are being the person God has called us to be. Being a student, this could mean putting everything into your classes, being a good peer and a good listener. As a parent, it's helping your children grow, whatever that may mean for them, and helping to inspire them to live a life of faith through daily prayer, showing acts of kindness, being polite and considerate of others. There are many ways we can be seen as people of faith, most especially through our acts of love.
Today's Reading states: 'For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building. According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and another man is building upon it. Let each man take care how he builds upon it. For no other foundation can any one lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If any one destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and that temple you are'(1 Corinthians 3:9-11, 16-17).
Today's reading talks about how God lays a foundation, for each of us to build upon. Through each and every brick, a church is built, though it requires the right determination, understanding of the action, and ingredients for creating it. God guides us through His Word, through the person of Christ and divine inspiration in being disciples. We gain understanding through prayer, guidance from religious leaders, and through those around us that God wills to help and work with us. Using each of these pieces, we take on the great task of bringing the Good News of God to the world, to our colleagues, classmates, and families. Take some time to reflect on how God is working through your work life to be a disciple.
Today we pray:
Thank You for laying a foundation for the world, for showing us the path towards dicispleship, to You. Help me to build upon this foundation, and leave an impact on those around me, especially those who need You most.
I pray this in Your most holy name, Amen.
