Where do you find hope? Is it only when things are going your way and everything is going well? For me, it's so much easier to be hopeful when I've had a tough day, and then at the end, there's a glimpse of joy, even if it's just in the drive home and seeing the beautiful colours of the sunset. It's about having a positive outlook, even when negativity bombards your life. Jesus tells us that we are going to be challenged, that we are going to have people test us and oppose our beliefs. However, in the midst of these challenges, we need to stay strong in our faith, and keep a mindset that is directed by hope. The question I pose again to you then, is where do you find hope?
Today's Reading states: 'And hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us. While we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Why, one will hardly die for a righteous man -- though perhaps for a good man one will dare even to die. But God shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we are now justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. Not only so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received our reconciliation' (Romans 5:5-11).
Today's reading talks about how we are each formed with the inspiration of hope in our hearts. The Holy Spirit guides us in everything we do, every action we take. When you feel down and defeated, it doesn't last very long, as you have a mind of hope, as well as people around you inspiring you to get up and face the world. It's important to always picture a goal and strive for this outcome. My personal bible verse reflects on this, tying in with stress and always seeking the Lord, no matter how much life pulls you down (Deuteronomy 31:8). Take some time to ask God to help you have a mindset of hope.
Today we pray:
Thank you for blessing me with this life, this family, my peers and everything I need to live a happy and comfortable life. Help me to remember the good when I feel defeated and help me to keep a mindset that is directed by hope and love.
I pray this in Your most holy name, Amen.
