What's Your Favourite Fruit?
Which fruit of the Spirit do you struggle with the most? It's easy to pinpoint the fruit that we enjoy the most, the one that is at the root in our passions. For me, I'd have to say the fruit that best describes me, would be my ability to love, through actions, a friendly smile, through caring passionately about situations. Generosity is closely rooted with love, as I care about giving myself to those around me, making meals, quality time, a joke to make someone smile. Where I struggle, is with patience and with joy. These are the two which are every important in my life, especially in being an educator, and having a positive outlook. God tells us that each of these fruits are to be present in the lives of the Christian, the disciples teaching the Word to the world. Where do you see the fruits in your life, and which ones do you need to work on?
Today's Reading states: 'But if you are led by the Spirit you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are plain: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, selfishness, dissension, party spirit, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit' (Galatians 5:18-25).
Today's reading talks about the fruit of the Spirit, how we are to live our lives in order for God to be at the centre. If we live by the Spirit, we must walk in the Spirit as well. The saying: 'walk the walk, talk the talk' is very true, very important here. We cannot just name ourselves believers on the inside and walk a different walk with our peers. The good disciples will live by these fruits in action, becoming an inspiration for our neighbour. Take some time to ask God to help you live by the fruits of the Holy Spirit, and to work on ones you struggle with most.
Today we pray:
Thank you for filling me with Your Spirit as I walk the life of a disciple. Help me to not only live by the Holy Spirit, but to act upon it and evangelize. Come Holy Spirit.
I pray in Your most holy name, Amen..
