Face the World With Friends
It's hard to face the world if you're standing on your own. Nobody likes to be a loner right? There's a reason that God made each of us as a part of humanity, to be in communion with one another. Are you a part of a community, a group of people that you can talk to about your faith? Each of us needs someone to rely on, to call on when we're facing our greatest challenges. We can always talk to God, though God too asks us to bring the Gospel among the people. I know for myself, if I hadn't grown up in youth groups, participating in faith retreats, going to mass and trying to fins more people who understand the yearning that is faith, it would be a lot more difficult to attest to my belief now. Do you bond with friends who have the same beliefs as you?
Today's Gospel states:'And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal. And he said to them, "Take nothing for your journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics. And whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them." And they departed and went through the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere' (Luke 9:1-6).
In today's reading we hear about how Jesus calls the twelve together and gives them authority to reach out and spread the Good News. He doesn't call one or two, he calls twelve. They go out taking nothing with them but their faith. This would be much harder if they had to do it alone, but standing by others who had the same faith, having Christ at the centre, made the challenging journey possible, a new lifestyle. Take some time to ask God to help you participate with groups of people who are also inspired to live lives of faith.
Today we pray:
Help me to take a step out of myself, and move closer to Your will and Word. Let me take steps towards participating in Faith events at my church, so to build lasting friendships that spark from my belief. Help me to build good friendships and relationships.
I ask this in Your most holy name, Amen.
