God Help Me to Heal
Do you take every opportunity you can to bring healing, to bring God's love to those around you? Healing can come in many forms, be that mental stability, physical ailes, emotional struggles. Perhaps you have a friendship that's been rocky for a while because you don't see eye to eye on an issue. God calls us to be healers, no matter the situation. If we turn our heads, based on the pressures and views of the world around us, how are we fulfilling our disciple ship mission in our everyday lives? God asks us to live by faith, and not by sight alone, to take the walk each and every day, despite challenges we may face. Where is an area in your life right now where you can bring someone healing and love?
Today's Gospel states:'On another sabbath, when he entered the synagogue and taught, a man was there whose right hand was withered. And the scribes and the Pharisees watched him, to see whether he would heal on the sabbath, so that they might find an accusation against him. But he knew their thoughts, and he said to the man who had the withered hand, "Come and stand here." And he rose and stood there. And Jesus said to them, "I ask you, is it lawful on the sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to destroy it?" And he looked around on them all, and said to him, "Stretch out your hand." And he did so, and his hand was restored. But they were filled with fury and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus' (Luke 6:6-11).
In today's reading, the people are attempting to trap Jesus. This man desperately needed healing, yet based on the laws given by Moses, they we're not to perform healing on the Sabbath. However, Jesus challenges this law, stating that it be better for this man to live, to thrive in the love of God, than to suffer another day. It can be easy to put on our blinders as we go through life, pretending not to notice the pain and hurt in the world, thinking someone else would be a better aid. Jesus is telling us that this is not the case, that our mission first and foremost is to help the sick, the poor, those in need of healing, whatever that healing may be. Maybe it's time to reconcile with that friend. Maybe it's time to talk to that person who seems to be having a tough day. Take some time to ask God to help you bring healing to others.
Today we pray:
Thank you for giving me this life to love. Help me to bring love and healing to those in most need, and let me recognize where you need me to step out and be disciples of love, even when it may be challenging. Help me to love others as you love me.
We pray in Your most holy name, Amen.
