Listen and Live
Do you listen to the call of God, working in your life? He's given you wisdom, the ability to speak, to hear, to love. God has given you everything, yet sometimes it's difficult to trust His will for your life, whether that be changing jobs because of opportunity, being open to a new relationship, helping someone who needs you. It may not always be easy to do, even when we know God is pushing us in that certain direction. What do you do when the whole world seems against you for some decisions you make that are God's will? There is so much struggle and uncertainty in our world. So much of the time, you have to trust what God has given you, and take the leap. Do you dare to be different, and view day as an opportunity?
Today's Reading states:'The Lord GOD has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with a word him that is weary. Morning by morning he wakens, he wakens my ear to hear as those who are taught. The Lord GOD has opened my ear, and I was not rebellious, I turned not backward. I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to those who pulled out the beard; I hid not my face from shame and spitting. For the Lord GOD helps me; therefore I have not been confounded; therefore I have set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be put to shame; he who vindicates me is near. Who will contend with me? Let us stand up together. Who is my adversary? Let him come near to me. Behold, the Lord GOD helps me; who will declare me guilty? Behold, all of them will wear out like a garment; the moth will eat them up' (Isaiah 50:4-9).
Living every day like it could be your last may seem over-the-top, but it's a very important aspect to grasp, for everyone. If you use the gifts, talents and opportunities presented to you each and every day, as if it were your last, imagine how much you could do for the world. Especially in terms of evangelization, bringing hope and love to each and every person, God helps in every step. He's made you unique and one of a kind as you are with purpose, to change the world. Take some time to ask God to help you live every day as if it were your last. Go forth and share the good news!
Today's prayer comes from 'Crosswalk' prayer for a new day:
Good morning, Lord! Today's a new day, a chance for a new start. Yesterday is gone and with it any regrets, mistakes, or failures I may have experienced. It's a good day to be glad and give thanks, and I do, Lord. Thank you for today, a new opportunity to love, give, and be all that you want me to be.
Today I want to start the day with you on my mind and in my heart. As I dress, let me wear the armor you've provided daily: the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, the belt of truth, the shoes of peace, and the sword of the spirit—with prayer on my tongue: praise for you and petitions for those around me and those I meet.
Feed me today with your daily bread. As the Bread of Life, your food, like manna, will sustain me throughout any trials and hungers. Help me to set my thoughts on things above and to speak only what will help and encourage others. Keep me from putting my foot in my mouth, and help me guard the affections of my heart today, Lord. Make whatever work I do be marked with excellence rather than perfectionism, as I seek not to make a name, but to make a difference. Help me to treat each person I encounter as you would, with respect and love, forgiving others and asking for forgiveness myself when needed.
As I start this day, help me remember that I belong to you, and my desire is to act accordingly. Keep my feet from stumbling and my mind from wandering into distractions that could steal precious time and energy from the most important things you have designed for me. I'm proud to be your child, Lord. And I'm so grateful that you died for me—rising again on your own new morning—so that every day could be filled with the wonder of your love, the freedom of your Spirit, and the joy of knowing you.
I know earthly life is short and fleeting, Lord. But I want to live today as if it were the first or the last day of my life, giving thanks for every good and perfect gift you choose to give. Today, and every day, I want to live my life for you, Jesus. In your precious name, Amen.
