Look Up to the Sky

Do you ever look up at the sky and just start singing? There's a reason we shout to the heavens when we're joyful. I know for myself, I had one of these moments the night I got engaged, beaming with joy and hope, and only shouting so the entire universe could hear me would come close to being enough for sharing my excitement. Did you know that looking up also helps to get everything flowing in your brain, making things more clear and helping you focus better? Interesting things to think about when also, as a form of joy and adoration, we look up and glorify God's goodness and love reigning in the heavens, and then look down in reverence with heads tilted as a form of respect and love for God, our Father.

Today's First Reading states:'Thus says the LORD: "In a time of favor I have answered you, in a day of salvation I have helped you; I have kept you and given you as a covenant to the people, to establish the land, to apportion the desolate heritages; saying to the prisoners, `Come forth,' to those who are in darkness, `Appear.' They shall feed along the ways, on all bare heights shall be their pasture; they shall not hunger or thirst, neither scorching wind nor sun shall smite them, for he who has pity on them will lead them, and by springs of water will guide them. And I will make all my mountains a way, and my highways shall be raised up. Lo, these shall come from afar, and lo, these from the north and from the west, and these from the land of Syene." Sing for joy, O heavens, and exult, O earth; break forth, O mountains, into singing! For the LORD has comforted his people, and will have compassion on his afflicted. But Zion said, "The LORD has forsaken me, my Lord has forgotten me." "Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you'(Isaiah 49:8-15).

In today's reading we hear how God appears to those in need, coming from afar, reuniting the world and that we should rejoice, singing to the heavens. God never forgets us, even when we're at our lowest points. We must try each and every day to look up, to be thankful, to trudge on and look to the sky, all the wonders that are beyond our control. When you feel like things are out of your control, and you don't know what to do next, look up, give thanks, and give it all to God. Take some time to pray and ask God to help you look to Him.

Today's prayer comes from 'belief net' a prayer to look up to God's will:

My Father,

You are here with me even though I’ve been unaware of you. You have placed before me a gateway that will lead me to you. In faith I take a step towards you, inviting you to come into my life, to teach me, change me, and make me the person you created me to be. Your Word says that if I seek you, I will find you. I’m seeking you now, and I’m ready for you to lay claim to the rest of my life for your purposes and your glory. I repent of insisting on my own way, doing my own thing, calling my own shots, and following after my own selfish desires. Each of these has deposited me on this dead-end road, wracked with pain. I’m ready now to be everything you’ve made me to be. Take me. I’m yours now. And I’m entering your presence through the portal of your great love and forgiveness.

In Jesus’ Name Amen.
