Go the Extra Mile

Have you ever come home at the end of the day and not quite felt fulfilled? Maybe you were cranky that day and snapped at a co-worker, or had an argument with your spouse. Maybe there was something from the day that stuck with you and seemed to 'ruin' it for you. You don't feel you handled things well, taken the steps to fulfill yourself for God's plans in your life. We all stray from the path God leads us on, even if it's just in the small things. The big question is how do we get back on the right track?

Today's Gospel states:'"Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfil them. For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven'(Matthew 5:17-19).

Today's Gospel reminds us to follow God's laws, to do every big and little thing we can to reveal His love and hope within the world, and how we will benefit in doing this. Maybe it's by smiling at a person you're having a rough day with, or adding that little sticky note spreading the love to your spouses' lunch pale. We all have areas where we can push ourselves just that bit more to fulfill God's will for us. Take some time to ask God to help you go the extra mile.

Today's prayer comes from 'Christian Daily Devotional' a prayer to go the extra mile:

Dear Father, I thank you for your love that’s deposited in my heart by the Holy Spirit! That love radiates through me, therefore everyone I meet or relate with today will be blessed with your divine love as I consciously demonstrate your love to them through my words and actions, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
