All that's Left is to Love
Do you enter every situation with a loving heart, and an open mind? Think about it, if you were to enter everything with a loving heart, you'd be much more positive, certainly have people around you, all in all you'd be happier. Now, it's not always easy to show love, especially if people get on our nerves, are unkind, maybe you don't get enough sleep and are frustrated. However, we can each take small steps to make life better, to lighten the mood, to express God's love in our lives. Think about seeing a beautiful sunset. God's beauty is evident. Do you take the time to see it, thank God for the beauty, or walk right by, ignoring the chance to love?
Today's First Reading states:'Thus says the LORD: "Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his arm, whose heart turns away from the LORD. He is like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see any good come. He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land. "Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit." The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately corrupt; who can understand it? "I the LORD search the mind and try the heart, to give to every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings"'(Jeremiah 17:5-10).
In today's reading, we hear about how the one that trusts the Lord is the most pure, the most blessed. The heart can deceive us, lead us astray. There are temptations, addictions, lifestyles that pull us away from the unending and unconditional love of God. Sin becomes like a barrier, as God's love is always there, just at times it's more difficult to see. If we each try to go into everything we do with love, open-minded, we not only feel God's love for us, and the positivity and joy it can bring us. We see this love affecting everyone around us as well. Take some time to ask God to help you be open to His love in your life.
Today's prayer comes from 'knowing Jesus', a prayer to help me to love:
O God, I thank Thee for the Shepherd’s Psalm, I shall read it often and profit from its insights into life and living. I thank Thee that I have a deeper appreciation for Your abiding Presence and wonderful love. Help me to love as I ought and be what I ought to be instead of merely telling myself, “This I ought to do.” Help me DO IT. In Christ’s name I pray. Amen.
