Love, Don't Judge

How often do we place judgements on the people around us? I'm sure we do it without even realizing it right? Our modern society has become very judgmental, especially in terms of appearance, what’s right to wear, how to look, how to act and what’s the improper response for disagreements. Really, it’s a world that’s lost the understanding of what signifies the importance of the individual, what makes each person special as they are. Remember ‘Imago Dei’, the term meaning we are each made in the uniqueness, and likeness of God? In other words, what gives us the right to say what the ‘perfect body type’ is, or how one should react in situations of hurt or pain? If we think back to Jesus, he stands out in society because he was different, he lived with the firm belief that the world needed to know God, all people, no matter what they thought of him? Why then are we a world that’s so fearful of how others respond onto us?

Today's Gospel states:'Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful. "Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For the measure you give will be the measure you get back"(Luke 6:36-38).

Today’s Gospel talks about how we shouldn't pass any form of judgement. This is difficult, we're stubborn and opinionated people, passionate about our beliefs and wanting to share them, even in the form of judgement. However, have you ever sat, waiting for confession, feeling so incredible small, fragile, God seeing every good and faulty piece of what makes you? Many people feel like this every day, like everyone views them based on appearance, every action they make, and makes it nearly impossible to have a life, to share their faith with the world. We are all special, and made unique with purpose, and should treat others and be treated as such. Take some time to pray and ask God to help us not judge others.

Today's prayer comes from 'the verse of the day' a prayer for not passing judgement and giving love:

Lord Jesus I have come to You for help. I am struggling with judging others. Lord I want to ask You to redeem this. Jesus teach me how to pray for others when I realize they are struggling instead of judging them. Help me to have a heart that shows compassion and mercy to people who hurting. I acknowledge that You are the righteous judge over all creation. I surrender to You. I pray You would bless those whom I have judged and that Your grace would be real to them. Amen
