Face it with Faith
Do we face each day with the readiness to be sacrificial, to take up our crosses and push forward, doing our very best? Think about a productive day you need to have, and then all of a sudden you're hit with a snow storm, much like today. Do you turn away in fear, completely avoiding responsibility, maybe be logical and stay safe? Do you go about a normal routine and drive way over the speed limit? Or, do you take things slow, take your time, pace yourself, being careful and still go about your day? People fall into different categories based on their strengths and weaknesses, we know our hearts, and when something is too much. We need to be smart, bare our crosses, and ask God for the strength to face the day, whatever that means, without fear.
Today's Second Reading states:'Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same nature, that through death he might destroy him who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong bondage. For surely it is not with angels that he is concerned but with the descendants of Abraham. Therefore he had to be made like his brethren in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make expiation for the sins of the people. For because he himself has suffered and been tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted'(Hebrews 2:14-18).
In today's reading, we hear how we need to face temptations, to share in the fullness of God's love and grace. God never pushes us beyond our limits, but gives us what we can handle, even if it feels like too much. One of my favourite sayings is that God gives the most challenging tasks to His most strongest followers. Through baptism, we enter into God's love, grace and freedom. What we choose to do with this great gift is our decision, but God is always with us, encouraging us to take up our crosses, to face the day and to be strong in faith. Take some time to ask God to help you enter each day with faith and strength to bear your cross.
Today's prayer comes from 'faith in the news' a prayer for strength in facing the day:
Righteous God, I need Your strength today and every day. Of myself, I can do nothing, but I can do all things only through Jesus Christ, Who will strengthen me. I do need this strength almost every day, especially the older I get. You can uphold me by Your righteous right hand, and only by Your Spirit can I endure. When my own strength fails, Yours takes over, and I thank You for having access to You through Jesus Christ, in Whose precious name I pray. Amen.
