Spread God's Love

Do we put each other to the test? Sometimes it's difficult enough to stick to a good faith life on our own, and it can help to have someone or some people that help put us on the right track, push us to be the best we can. One of the central Christian depictions is that we are to imitate the person of Christ. Since we are sinners, we all fall and need God's grace to renew and strengthen us, we need one another for support. There's a reason Jesus tells us to love our neighbour, being just as important as our faith and trust in God, we need each other, in many ways. When you look at the life of someone who has everything they need in material, but nothing in terms of relationships, your heart aches for them, for the best things in life come from relationship and love.

Today's Gospel states:'One sabbath he was going through the grainfields; and as they made their way his disciples began to pluck heads of grain. And the Pharisees said to him, "Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the sabbath?" And he said to them, "Have you never read what David did, when he was in need and was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God, when Abi'athar was high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those who were with him?" And he said to them, "The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath; so the Son of man is lord even of the sabbath"'(Mark 2:23-28).

Today's Gospel talks about how Jesus debates with the Pharisees about feasting in the presence of the Lord. Obviously we know now, he was talking about something much greater, the great power of God and the love and grace found in the Eucharist. In the same way that Jesus invites us to be a part of this banquet and receive Him, we need to share the great joy of this love with others. This includes testing our neighbour and keeping them on the path of faith, constantly supporting one another. This is what Jesus tries to do for all people, including the Pharisees. We just have to be open to receiving him and giving this same love to those around us. Take some time to ask God to help you stay on the path of faith.

Today's prayer comes from 'Cathedral of St Matthew' a prayer for harvest worthy of heaven:

Increase in us, Lord, the faith you have given us, and bring to a harvest worthy of heaven the praise we offer you at the beginning of this new day. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. AMEN
